I have a confession to make, Co-Optimus readers. There is a truly excellent co-op game that I have neglected to play until only recently. My status as editor and resident classic gaming guru is in serious jeapordy. How could I have put off buying a game with "Retro" in the title for so long? How foolish it was for me to overlook Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2!
Earlier today, we posted our review of Damnation, a highly anticipated co-op title. We went into this review with an open mind, in spite of the other reviews we'd read. It was not our intention to post this less-than-thrilled review on the eve of such terrible news for the developers. We wished the outcome were different both for the review, and developers circumstances. Unfortunately, the Development staff for Damnation have all hit the unemployment lines after recent layoffs.
2 guys walk into a bar, and talk football. Sounds pretty standard, right? Well, Destructoid.com's Samit Sarkar spoke with Madden 10 Lead Designer Ian Cummings to get the low-down on what to expect! NFL fans will be excited to learn that Madden 10 has an "NFL Franchise" system, where 32 people join up for some online rumble time according to real NFL schedules. Though this isn't exactly co-op, new innovative ways to bring players together is fine by us!
Steampunk and Western seem like a genre that would meld nicely together. One could say they would even cooperate. But if Wild Wild West taught us anything, it's not to judge a book by its cover. We climb the ledge and jump face first into Damnation in our co-op review.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who don't know what Modern Warfare 2 is. After more than 13 millions copies of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold, and a Twitter campaign that topped the charts, consumer awareness is down twenty percent, according to data tracking firm OTX..
Yesterday the PlayStation Blog held a live chat with members of Naughty Dog, developers of Uncharted 2. Fans were given the opportunity to ask questions regarding the game, the beta, and the movie. Evan Wells, Co-President, and Amy Hennig, Creative Director, were there to answer.
It's already known that Dead Space Extraction for the Wii will contain a two player cooperative mode. But what isn't known is the fact that the original Deadspace had a cooperative mode as well, at least, until it was cut like the limbs of the infected.
Monster Hunter fan? Enjoy art? Capcom has announced The Gathering Hall, a new feature at the Lazarides Gallery in London.
The news of a high def remake of Serious Sam, to be released on PC and Xbox Live Arcade, had me giddy as a headless, shirtless, bomb wielding dude who could somehow still scream. Unfortunately, PS3 users are left out of all the fun. Or are they?
It is a question that will be debated until the end of time: just how many players is the ideal when it comes to co-op games? Eight? Four? According to Infinity Ward, it's just two (yeah right). If you ask Microsoft, they are thinking a wee bit bigger. Like, many orders of magnitude bigger.
While generally being bizarre in presentation, Indie games tend to speak to the heart of gamers. Classic platforming that pays homage to our gaming roots, games like Bennu (Once a Bird) give us very unique co-op experiences. Bennu is a puzzle platforming game with an intriguing "leap-frog" style co-op. That is to say, when a rope can connect with an environment, it can also connect to your swinging co-op partner for a little added boost in whatever direction you're headed. Bennu, from what we've derived from the trailer, is a bird-like-creature that has to maneuver its way through obstacles and bosses, using a unique physics engine to launch itself from place to place.
ArmA 2 is available on Steam today, and the very co-op friendly game is already getting fairly solid praises. While the game sports a robust single player and co-op campaign, as well as plenty of online options - it's the mission editor of ArmA 2 that's getting a lot of attention.
