It's a long weekend here in the states (or as Sam knows them, the colonies), and the Co-Opticrew is fully prepared to take advantage. Well, most of us are, anyway. Some of us (including yours truly) had completely forgotten about the extra twenty four hours of freedom and are now scrambling to make sure it doesn't slip away without at least a little gaming goodness.
Path Of Exile, the ever-growing and evolving free-to-play, action-RPG, has received a new trailer for the upcoming “Blight” update. The video, available below, features developer commentary as they discuss a new mode that will arrive with the update: tower defense.
Those ambitious chefs over at Overcooked! 2 seem to have done it all. They've diced veggies in the midst of zombified hordes. They've prepped fancy meals in the great outdoors. On September 12th, they'll dive headlong into their next adventure: satisfying the unfed masses of a wacky carnival.
A Hat in Time has a release date for the Nintendo Switch: October 18th, 2019. This solid date replaces the previously announced time frame of “soon” that was touted during 2018’s GamesCom. Since then, it has been radio silence from developer Gears For Breakfast, so fans are undoubtedly heaving a sigh of relief now that an end is in sight.
Steambirds Alliance is one of those co-op games that is on the cusp of doing something new. It's not quite a co-op game in the traditional sense, it's an "open world" MMO twin-stick shooter that is completely PvE. But there's no partying up, there's no level cap, and there's certainly no shortage of green space ships. Did I mention it's a rogue-like too?
A few weeks ago Locke, Mike and Nick checked out the latest build of Risk of Rain 2 on PC. It's been almost 5 months since we last looked at the game, you can see how far it's progressed since then.
A couple weeks ago, EA and DICE dropped a "look ahead" post on the community forums for Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017) that laid out what's in store for the multiplayer shooter for the next few months of the year. The one feature that caught our attention was this: a new 4 player online PvE co-op mode. Rejoice, co-op fans!
Just like the inevitable heat death of the universe, Dying Light 2's release is getting closer by the day. We've still got some way to go, as the game isn't due out until Spring 2020, but already I can feel its parkour-combat seeping into my mind. On the way home from work, I found myself gazing up at a nearby gap between buildings, wondering if it was short enough to jump.
The Co-opticrew is having a hard time prying themselves from the allure of the sequel. The pull is so strong, in fact, that nearly every game on the docket this weekend is either the second, third, or umpteenth entry in a series. What can we say? We like what we like, and we apparently have no room in our lives for things that don't align exactly with those specifications. Or maybe, instead of room, it's time. In fact, speaking from experience, I can say with some certainty that it is indeed time.
Gunfire Games' Remnant: From the Ashes has been out for two days now, and initial reviews are quite favorable. In part that's due to the difficulty of the encounters in the game, which requires players to come up with some interesting ways of dealing with whatever gets thrown at them. The other part is tackling those encounters with friends (or strangers). A recent interview with Mike Maza, Principal Designer at Gunfire Games, sheds a little light on how the team approached co-op.
The first DLC pack for MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order now has an official release date: Sept. 30. The pack is part of the $20 bundle that also includes two future DLC packs (Fantastic Four and X-Men), which has to be purchased as a whole (i.e., you can't buy the packs individually). If you've been enjoying your time with the game, which I sort of have, then picking the bundle up will certainly ensure you get even more stuff as this pack alone includes four characters (Blade, Punisher, Moon Knight, and Morbius), two new game modes, and a new Infinity Rift.
Human: Fall Flat is having a fit of the vapors in its latest update. The new level, "Steam", is industrially themed and focuses its puzzles and mechanics around all the ways you can use and abuse water's gaseous state. Most importantly, it's available at this very moment.
