Lord of the Rings: Conquest PC System Requirements, No PC Demo

Lord of the Rings: Conquest is soaring into retailers next week, in fact, it's already landed at Co-Optimus HQ in time for us to review the latest from Pandemic Studios.  We'll be giving the console versions a run through the hobbit obstacle course, but for those of you with fancy smancy PCs...and even ones without - the official system requirements have been released.  Without further ado...

This Week in Co-Op: Left 4 Dead

Well, the holiday season is upon us. It’s cold outside and families are gathering together for fun and food and gifts. So, opportunities for co-op should be rampant. This was true for me, since I got some quality time with one of my favorite co-op games. This game is great for family togetherness and unity. I’m speaking of course about Left 4 Dead. There’s nothing like a zombie apocalypse to bring family together.

Dawn of War 2 System Requirements and Beta Info

As the new year continues to roll on, we inch ever closer to another co-op RTS, Dawn of War 2.  The developers have released the official system requirements for the game, and all in all it doesn't look like you'll need a million hamster to run this thing.  Any ol Intel Core 2 Duo processor or AMD 64 4400+ processor is recommended, as well as a Nvidia 7800 or ATI X1900 class video card.  And those are the recommended requirements, not even the minimum.

1UP Sold to UGO Network - Numerous Staff Laid Off

Lets face it, this economy sucks.  Further evidence has occurred this evening as Ziff-Davis has sold off their online gaming network 1UP to Hearst Corp, owners of the UGO network of sites.  While nothing is officially confirmed yet, it appears 1UP.com is going away, as is all the podcasts.  Several of the staff members use Twitter (as do we) and have made it know that they are laid off.

Left 4 Dead Lighting: Scaring You Softly

Not all of Left 4 Dead's visual effects are as apparent as the above comparison between an early-version screenshot and the subsequent final build screenshot of the same alley. Just the same, you'd be surprised at the amount of innovative detail that was put into Left 4 Dead's dynamic lighting alone.

Sven Co-Op Mod 4.0 Beta Released

It's been ten years since Half-Life 1 was released, but that doesn't mean the modding scene has died down any.  In fact, one of the best mods for the game has always been the Sven Co-Op Mod.  Last week the team finally release the first beta of Version 4.0 of the mod.  Along with the ability to play through the entire Half-Life storyline in co-op, players can now play through the Opposing Force add on as well as tons of custom maps.

Co-Op Release Alert - Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos

There's a new co-op game on Xbox Live Arcade this week, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it.  Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos is a "seek and find" adventure game, similar to the CSI Games on the PC, 360 and Wii.   You star as an "elite interpol agent" - though your only skills appear to be finding replica Chinese artifacts in a castle.  Sorry there's no gun play here, you are armed only with a magnifying glass.
