Via Colony of Gamers comes a tip that Atari has released a new Ghostbusters: The Video Game trailer in hi-def! While the spoken lines lack a certain snap (thank goodness for post-production), all four original voices are present, and then some (the Ecto 1 and Slimer sound true to the movies). Walter Peck makes an appearance, as do t...
For me, the best co-op games are the ones that make me feel like a total geek while playing them. Left 4 Dead did this for me, since I was constantly remarking how it was like 28 Days Later, in addition to other obscure zombie movie references. The only way the co-op game can be any more fun is if I am surrounded by other people basking in geekery. Fortunately I got the chance this week, as I played a game that is essentially a perfect storm for geeks: Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Sony's PlayStation 3 turned 2 years old last month, with the PlayStation Network registering 14 million accounts. If you are keeping score, that puts the online community of Sony's PlayStation Network neck and neck with Microsoft's Xbox Live service. Of course the big thing here is cost, with Xbox Live Gold setting users back about $4 a month and PSN being completely free. Yes we know, Silver is free.
Microsoft has launched a stand alone client (download here) for their recently updated Games for Windows Live service. The client features a Marketplace, Media and Overview section; but what's surprisingly missing is anyway to browse achievements, view your friends list, or send and receive messages. Granted this is only the first release of the client, but right now it's little more than a glorified webrowser into the marketplace. I know personally the marketplace is the last of those listed features I wanted from a standalone client.
Short and to the point. If you were looking to pull the trigger on a new PlayStation 3, Amazon is hosting a deal that might be right up your alley. You'll get the Uncharted Bundle PlayStation 3 - that's the PS3 with 160GB Hard Drive, Wireless Controller and Uncharted. Plus you'll get a FREE copy of the 4 player co-op title LittleBigPlanet!
Billy's not the only sad mechanical being around. Look at that poor DS! He may be slick and sexy, and have some awesome single-player titles available to play, but he sure gets lonely. There's just not a huge selection of co-op titles for the sad little DS. What few there are usually feature local co-op only. Sad, eh?
The above screenshot may be a bit dark (doh, he went there again), but the future is looking quite bright for Diablo 3. To say that the game is highly anticipated is like saying the surface of the sun is a bit toasty. We're looking forward to some co-op demon slaying goodness, the sooner the better. GamesRadar has posted a preview of their hands-on time with a demo of Diablo 3 at Blizzcon. There's not a huge amount of new information, but there are a few little morsels about the Rune system. It would appear Runes aren't just for items anymore...
MTV's Stephen Totilo had a chance to chat with World at War executive producer Daniel Suarez, and he has posted the following tease on the MTV Multiplayer blog: What could the new approach be? Downloadable content for the single-player campaign instead of just multiplayer map packs? New armament? New music? A map editor? &...
The second of our series of Billy's advice for gifting has arrived! Our Holiday Guides are the most important, for one simple reason: if you give a co-op game, chances are, you'll get to play it! That really makes the joy of giving just that much better, doesn't it? Here's our list of the best co-op titles available for the Wii and DS, sorted by who you're giving them to. Also, look for another special celebrity appearance!
CVG has just posted Atari's apparent intentions to release Ghostbusters: The Video Game for six systems in June 2009. Says Phil Harrison of Infrogrames : Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari's global line-up in 2009. Wow. Contain that excitement, Phil. We don't want the PR folks at Nintendo challenging...
I remember when we were hyping up Castle Crashers. It was one of the few co-op games we knew were going to be a stand out title. Four player online, easy pick up gameplay, and graphics that just ooze style. Then the game was released, and our hopes and dreams were dashed. What we got was a great couch co-op title that severely lacked any workable online.
The holiday season is over for buying games, so we discuss playing them. Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, and others are on the table. We even talk about a surprise single player game, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. There's even a bit for the developers to listen to about some standards in co-op gaming, what makes the cut and what is simply a shortcut. Ready to test your might against the co-op gods? Listen to Episode 7.
