Initially released via web browser, the tactical RPG Immortal Empire will soon be coming to Steam. The main action of the game uses an X-Com like system to dictate how many actions you - and your foes - can take in one turn. Once you stand triumphant, you earn XP to use to level up your party and gather loot to make you stronger.
When we last left our heroes, Bill Paxton and his ragtag crew of hardasses (and Bruce Campbell) were as close as ever to escaping their aircraft carrier-shaped prison. "Reckoning", the fourth and final DLC pack for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, aims to finally bring the Exo Zombies cast to something that isn't effectively undead flotsam. But wait, like the plethora of zombie fiction both pre-and-proceeding Exo Zombies, there's a twist!
These days, "classic" real time strategy games are few and far between. Many of the genre's latest entries offer some sort of subversion on the typical tropes, which is more than welcome, but makes me long for the days of massive troop formations and invincible laser convertibles. I suppose you could make the argument that Act of Aggression is subverting recent subversions to recreate those definitive RTS mechanics, but then you'd be distracting from the game's sick laser tanks.
Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launched with just 500GB of disk storage. And while this might have sounded like an enormous amount to owners of the previous generation of consoles, the jump from these older boxes in terms of graphical fidelity meant this space would only be enough for a dozen or less games. We’re now just starting to see systems ship with 1TB internally. If your’re an early adopter you can add storage yourself to you Xbox One simply by plugging in a USB 3.0 drive. But which one do you choose?
3D world, 2D exploration, mechanical animals as protagonists, and co-op. There's the elevator pitch for Mekazoo, and we're already interested. The upcoming platform game from Good Mood Creators features five different mekanimals running, swinging, climbing and jumping through a colorful world on their way to take out an insectoid army. I mean, insektoid?
Last night we checked out a mod for Quake 2. Yes, that Quake 2. Called Co-Op Or Die the mod allows co-op play on a persistent world server for up to four players per instance. Along with the entire Quake 2 campaign, players can play various challenge maps created by the community. The whole thing is tied into the official Co-Op or Die website which allows chat, stats, and other info all integrated right in.
For this installment of Tabletop Co-Op, we travel to one of the most well-known locations in all of fantasy literature: Middle Earth. The setting is a rich one, and has inspired countless video games as well as card and board games. The idea of a group of men, elves, dwarves, and hobbits teaming up to take on the relentless invading forces of an ev...
Kids have it pretty rough. When they're not being herded between classrooms, people are always screaming about how playing in traffic is the worst, and how they should probably not consume vast quantities of glue. Zombie Playground complicates childhood even further by throwing zombies into the volatile cocktail of adolescence, educating boys and girls on the futility of society and how to murder the undead with a baseball bat.
If you're a fan of horde mode/twin-stick shooter games, you may want to check out the recently released A Mass of Dead. Sure, it uses zombies for enemies, but really, the kind of enemy you're "shmuping" doesn't matter; just how you go about doing it.
Geometry Wars has come a long way since its initial release in 2003. The arcade shooter has grown a lot in the last decade, adding things like-- you know what? It added co-op. That's what matters. Even the brand new PlayStation Vita version has co-op, and you only need one system to give it a try!
Are you survivors still parkouring among the tropical ruins surrounded by the rotting, heinous undead? Dying Light released exactly half a year ago back in January, and Techland is breaking out the "Half a Year Anniversary" party hats! I'm not really one to celebrate half-aversaries or anything, but we liked Dying Light quite a bit, so let's all slap on a goofy hat and enjoy a montage of zombies getting bludgeoned.
Last year we heard about a game with an interesting take on the whole FPS genre. Gunscape combines world-building and FPS elements to create a game that allows players to build their own levels, and then play them with (or against) friends. Originally slated for a PC and Xbox One release, the title will be arriving on PlayStation 4 and Wii U early next year.
