It's a mostly quiet week this week thought we've got one big (and beautiful) digital release on the slate. In fact it looks like the next couple of weeks should be fairly quiet - though you can always check our video game release calendar for the most up to date co-op release info.
I'm not sure why I keep trying the Souls series of games, in all my hours of playing them I've yet to find anything I'd consider fun or satisfying. Yet I'm diving back in for more pain and torture otherwise I won't hear the end of it from certain staff members. In fact, a lot of the staff is dipping into the graphically superior version of the game.
Several online service changes are coming to many 2K games this May, most notably Borderlands and Civilization games. On May 31st, the first Borderlands, as well as seven Civilization titles (listed below) on PC will temporarily go offline while 2K transfers online service from GameSpy Technology to Steamworks. While offline play will remain unaffected, the titles that will temporarily be unavailable for online play are:
Dark Souls 2 arrived on PC last night (you could likely hear the tortured screams of Nick and myself) a little ahead of its original release date of today. While the game is known for its difficulty, there are a few challenges that have come up for players that aren't intended. Like the game not starting at all. Fortunately, there's a support thread to help out.
No doubt in preparation for the upcoming beta this summer, Bungie has revamped the website for Destiny. In addition to making everything move, the spruced up site now offers up some info regarding the story, enemies, and classes populating this bleak universe.
Recently, Infinity Ward updated Call of Duty: Ghosts and with it came a decent, but terrifying addition to the co-op sides of things. Those who want to take their games to the next level can experience a classic Call of Duty game type that is exceedingly difficult, Chaos Mode.
Dark Souls 2 is out now on Steam, an early surprise for folks who pre-ordered the title. The game was originally supposed to launch tomorrow, a few weeks after the console release, but somebody decided to push the button tonight. While we were impressed with the gameplay of the console version, there were times that it graphically just couldn't stand up. Now the PC version is here to offer some improvement in that department while retaining all the gameplay so many folks enjoy.
Best known for their work on Max and the Magic Marker and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Danish developer Press Play is dipping into the world of cooperative games with their upcoming title, currently name Project Totem. In this puzzle platformer, players are tasked with navigating through a series of levels in order to complete the construction of a totem. The catch is that you have to control two objects at the same time.
The other weekend at PAX East 2014, I also checked out the upcoming Stronghold game, Stronghold Crusader 2. Though I'm no wizard of the RTS genre (no brag-worthy APM score here), I certainly enjoy playing them on a casual level. How did I fare going hands-on with the game? Spoiler: I got my butt kicked.
Octodad: Dadliest Catch released on PS4 yesterday, and the game is already being offered a discount for PS Plus membership. The game might just suck in both you and bunch of friends for a wacky co-op session.
War games are so prevalent today that they all become a little samey; play the game, learn the maps, rinse and repeat. Warface is trying to prevent this by refreshing the combat with new 5 player co-op missions released on a daily basis. A trailer has launched to celebrate the game's official release on 360.
With every new generation of hardware that launches there is always a lull in content to enjoy. Many times we get prettier versions of games we’ve already played, and most launch titles aren’t what they’re cracked up to be. You’ve probably played the “best co-op games of last gen”, so instead of telling you ...
