When Microsoft announced they were creating a twin stick shooter set in the Halo franchise, the old school arcade gamer in me jumped for joy. I’m a huge fan of the Halo series as well as a huge fan of shoot em' up arcade style games like Geometry Wars and Smash T.V. My excitement was quickly tamed though when it was revealed the game woul...
Having made an indie-twin stick shooter myself, I know it's a tough market to crack. Still, the reason I chose to create a game in that genre was because its a genre so near and dear to my heart. So when I got an email about XenoRaptor with the subject line "Fight rocket propelled chainsaws as a cyberdragon in this co-op bullet hell" I knew I had to check it out.
After a lengthy hiatus, it's time once again for another Co-Op Classics. In this feature, we cover the great (and often not so great) co-op games from the past, with a special emphasis on arcade games. Today, we are taking a look at an obscure game that is unique enough to get the spotlight as a Co-Op Classic: Capcom's Battle Circuit....
Namco Bandai has released a demo for its new fighting game Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z. The teaser features a sampling of the full game's content before its January 28th release date, including a quick co-op mission that pits you a friend against some very recognizable DBZ foes.
You've undoubtedly heard of the Angry Birds franchise by now. The mobile game has transcended beyond the borders of a $1 downloadable title to become a cultural phenomenon played by gamers and traditional non-gamers alike. It's odd to think a small game about avians and swines can spawn an entire line of merchandise including plushies and c...
Like one of Gob's little tricks ("They're illusions, Michael."), X-Men Arcade has been pulled from PlayStation Network without notice. The wacky thing is that it's still up on Xbox Live Arcade. Licensing issues? Excess of tachyon particles building up at Sony HQ? No official word has been released, so we're free to speculate and assume the worst!
We're not ones to monger, but have you heard the buzz around the hive? It seems Drinkbox Studio's Guacamelee will slather itself on PS4 and Xbox One consoles in spring 2014. It's bringing with it a fistful of new content for its next-gen debut, including two new worlds, enhanced visuals, and a "chicken bomb" ability.
Digital Extremes has the perfect gift for you all gamers who, like me, enjoy the simple things in life: like space ninjas. The PC version of Warframe has gotten a new update, titled "Cicero Crisis," which includes yet another new Warframe along with a new tileset, new weapons, and further improvements. Topping all of THAT off, they're also running a big sale on their "platinum" and mod packs through Amazon and Steam.
Fans of Killing Floor may be pleasantly surprised when they first play Killing Floor: Calamity on OUYA. This twin stick shooter aims to expand the Killing Floor universe by bringing characters from the PC version into a 100% pure couch co-op survival spree.
The sandbox physics game Contraption Maker recently received a tidy little update that fixed a massive list of bugs and incorporated an almost as massive list of tweaks and improvements. New sound effects were also added, but the best news is online co-op has been switched on. It's time to build, people. BUILD!
Dragon's Crown Inferno Mode feeling too easy for you? Capped out at level 99? Good news, then: Vanillaware has added a new difficulty mode (Ultimate) in the latest update to their RPG brawler. It raises the level cap accordingly to a whopping 255.
Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, the weekly piece that looks at interesting news around the gaming industry that may or may not directly pertain to cooperative gaming. With the holiday break right around the corner, things were mostly quiet around the web. Though a few companies took the opportunity to set the stage for what's coming in 2014.
