Spidersaurs is a run-and-gun shooter/platformer that’s coming to consoles and PC on July 14. When a horde of dinosaur-spider hybrids runs amok, gamers will step in as a pair of human test subjects tasked with saving the day. With a humorous, cartoon-like premise, tight Contra-style shooting, and 2-player local co-op, the game should be r...
When I reviewed Final Vendetta, the modern retro-style brawler from Bitmap Bureau, my chief complaint was the game's difficulty. It's fun but tough! In our interview with developer Mike Tucker, he promised that balance tweaks and a new Casual difficulty setting would be coming to consoles. Players needn't wait for the patch to beat the game, though, because there's already a cheat menu with a level select and invincibility option! We'll tell you how to reach it.
Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a collection of two classic 2.5D platformers, newly enhanced for modern consoles and PC. Not only do both games look a lot nicer than they originally did, they also allow a second player to join Klonoa as a support character. The method for bringing in a co-op partner is a bit clunky, but we're here to help!
Back in the days of the first PlayStation, Namco released a magical 2.5D platformer called Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. It would go on to inspire several more games such as Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil for PlayStation 2. 25 years later, the first two games have come to modern platforms in HD remastered form as Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series. Not only are these games still magical, but Bandai Namco has added a co-op mode to both titles!
While competitive eSports gamers rely on pro-style controllers, the nicer hardware can benefit co-op and solo players too. HexGaming is one of the leading providers of custom controllers for today's console. Today, the company launched the Rival Pro Controller for PlayStation 5, an elite controller that offers remappable buttons, interchangeable thumbsticks, and more.
The June E3 season came and went without Arcade1Up making any big home arcade cabinet announcements. Arcade1Up kicked offer July with a bang, though, first launching its long-promised Dragon's Lair cabinet, and now announcing three new machines. Today, two new Capcom Legacy cabinets have gone up for preorder that feature Captain Commando and plenty more co-op arcade classics, and a third cabinet features Ms. Pac-Man and other Namco titles.
Splatoon is Nintendo's series of third-person shooters in which teams of players cooperate or compete to paint environments and each other. The latest game in the series, Splatoon 3, is due out on September 9. To celebrate the occasion, Nintendo will be releasing both a Splatoon-themed OLED Switch console and a Pro Controller for Switch. Both pieces of hardware look appropriately colorful indeed.
Long ago, the Xbox 360 was an excellent console that got bogged down by an unintuitive, advertisement-laden dashboard. Things were so bad that you could hardly find indie games within the labyrinthine menus. Indie developer Mommy's Best Games (makers of Shoot 1UP DX) fought back by releasing Game Type, a shoot 'em up that parodied the Xbox dashboard itself. This September, that shmup will be returning in enhanced form as Game Type DX - complete with 2-player local co-op.
Hot on the heels of a certain turtles-themed beat ‘em up, UK-based developer Bitmap Bureau launched their own highly anticipated brawler in June: Final Vendetta. In our co-op review, we praised the game’s Neo Geo-style graphics and core gameplay but called out some balance issues that hampered our experience. Still, Final Vendetta is su...
In 2020, THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games released a remake of the original Destroy All Humans! game on modern platforms. It was welcome because there's really nothing like DAH! nowadays, a series that lets players become malevolent aliens and wreak havoc on cartoonish humans. Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed, the next remake in the series, is due out in August. Today, the publisher released a new co-op trailer and revealed that gamers who preorder Reprobed will get Destroy All Humans! Clone Carnage, a free multiplayer game with co-op modes, right away.
While it turns out that WayForward's RWBY: Arrowfell won't feature co-op, the same can't be said for another upcoming title from the fan-favorite indie developer. Spidersaurs is due to launch in less than two weeks, and it will definitely support 2-player local co-op. A run-and-gun shooter in the style of Contra 4 (which WayForward also developed), Spidersaurs is a game that fans of the genre won't want to miss.
Last summer, WayForward and Arc System Works announced their collaboration on an upcoming game, RWBY: Arrowfell. The newest game based on Rooster Teeth's CG-animated series will add to the plot of the show's seventh volume, complete with series-accurate voice actors and cinematics. RWBY: Arrowfell was first announced as featuring local and online co-op. A year later, we have a new trailer and gameplay details, plus a bit of bad news. Arrowfell will now be a single-player game when it arrives in the fall.
