Happy Monday, Co-Optimus faithful! This week we have two new co-op titles featuring choppas, shootas, and towas. Is it just me, or does it feel like the industry is kind of just kind of twiddling its thumbs until E3? At least we have the big Xbox reveal coming up... Anyway, here's what's in stores (both digital and retail) this week.
The final Borderlands 2 DLC will be here very soon, which is sort of a sad thing to hear for us Co-Optimus folk. We’re excited to see that Gearbox has revealed a very small taste of what is to come out of “Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep” coming later in June.
While the release date may have been pushed back to August, Disney Infinity is alive and well. As proof, there's a video! And it's got pirates! The new teaser shows off the Pirates of the Caribbean Play Set, complete with sword fighting, cannons firing, ships sailing, and Jack Sparrow being a general snark as he slides across ropes. And yes, a Kraken is summoned. Because you're kinda required to do that at this point.
For this month's volume of MMO Co-Opportunities, we'll be going back to classic format. I'll be taking a look at Neverwinter, the free-to-play MMO by Cryptic, and pulling out some unique aspects of the game that facilitate a co-op playstyle. Let's do it!
Everybody remember The Incredible Machine series? Way back in the early to mid 90s, a series of puzzle games was released that essentially let you build your own Rube Goldberg devices. You know, the ones that involve mallets hitting marbles that roll down ramps to wake up a chicken whose flapping wings hit a lever that drops a bag of flour on top of a scale that tips and turns the light switch off. That sort of thing. The team behind those classic games is working on Contraption Maker, a spiritual sequel to The Incredible Machine that promises to bring back the same free-form puzzle solving we fell for back in the good old days.
The team at Chucklefish is still toiling away on the Terraria-like sandbox game Starbound. Pre-orders opened up in mid-April and have been a rousing success, bringing in over $1.1 million from almost 50,000 future players. That's a lot of funding, especially for a small indie studio, and it bodes well for the future of Starbound.
It is only one day until any Borderlands 2 player willing to drop $9.99/800MSPs will get to meet the new Psycho character, Krieg. He is lean, mean and ultra-keen to cleave you in two. This new video highlights some of the skills that Krieg brings to the band of Vault Hunters - they mostly consist of the ability to run straight at the enemy and take a Bullymong of damage.
Atlus has released the second character gameplay trailer for the upcoming four player co-op brawler, Dragon's Crown. The video features the modest battletrix, the Amazon warrior. Her lack of armor and long polearm allows for powerful, agile attacks which have the enemies spinning.
The latest update to the mega-hit Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is out now. The next time you start your game, you will automatically download patch 11. This time around, there are no super exciting new features or items available, however. Update 11 is simply a fix to some of the bugs and glitches that have been present in the game. For a complete list of those fixes, take a look at the patch notes below:
It was a crazy week in the gaming industry this week, with announcements, politics, excitement, and of course games. As we're gearing up for E3 in just under a month lots of publishers are unveiling some new titles and others are dropping the curtain on just what has been going on. But there was one major announcement this week that caught everyone off guard - and that had to do with EA.
With the recent XBLA release of Monaco it seems a bunch of the staff have chosen to dive back into some co-op heisting. The Neverwinter beta also seems to be quite popular while the rest of us continue to trudge through site development. Soon folks you'll get a preview of that...soon.
Resident Evil 6 may have been a disappointment for the most hardcore Resident Evil fans, but not every game in the series has strayed completely away from that original feel. The demo for Resident Evil: Revelations, which will be hitting the console scene next week, was given pretty decent reviews as a 3DS title.
