Co-Op Monthly Round-Up for February, 2013

Well this year surely escalated quickly.  The shortest month of the year saw a solid chunk of co-op releases and a boatload of news as well.  With seven co-op reviews and over a dozen co-op releases, several features, and plenty of other goodies I wouldn't blame you if you missed some of the goodness of February 2013.  Here's some of what you may have missed this month.

The Gorn have been taking some serious steroids since the 70's.

New Star Trek Screenshots Show Off Team Kirk and Spock

In 2009, Star Trek’s reboot onto the big screen has certainly given nerds like us something to drool over. Once we heard that a co-op game was being developed right alongside the success of the movie, we knew we could have a real winner here. Many new Star Trek screenshots have surfaced recently of Kirk and Spock working together to save the galaxy, with an old enemy we can hardly recognize.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army Launch Trailer Features X-Ray Death

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army is available for download right freak'n now. If you like sniping and you hate zombies, especially Nazi zombies who have been organized into some kind of fighting force --let's call it an army, a "Nazi Zombie Army," if you will-- then this is the game for you. Now I have no idea where Hitler is getting all these zombies. I'm pretty sure I blew the head off of every Nazi soldier on the western front in my initial playthrough of Sniper Elite V2. He must get these guys wholesale.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Update Will Include Cross-Region and Gamepad Play

Monster Hunter 3:Ultimate is coming out in less than a month for the Wii U and the 3DS. You may have read in our previous news coverage that Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate for the Wii U would be playable only in your home region. Well, it seems that the folks over at Capcom Unity have been listening to fan demands and are deciding to add two very nice features to the Wii U version of the game.

V-Moda Crossfade M-100 Headset Impressions

Over the years I've reviewed, worn, listened, and tried dozens upon dozens of gaming headsets. They've all had one thing in common - they were designed for gaming and communication first and audio second. That's not to say any of these headsets sounded bad - the Astro A30s still are still my go to headsets I use almost daily. But the latest headsets I've been testing are different - they were designed with audio in mind first.  In fact the V-Moda Crossfade M-100 stereo headsets were designed "by the community" for both their weight, feel, and audio tuning.

Give me that loot and XP!

Sacred Citadel Will Have Strong RPG Elements

There will be more to Sacred Citadel than meets the eye. When we first played the side-scrolling brawler at PAX, I astutely noted that we "pretty much just smashed buttons and killed dudes," but RPG elements like loot and leveling  will play more of a roll than I initially thought. Three players will be able to choose from four different character classes, each with their own special abilities.

Reconstruct Gotham one block at a time

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes Headed to Wii U

You may have remembered in the middle of last year, June to be exact, when LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was released. It came out for virtually every console at the time, including an Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, PC, Playstation Vita, and 3DS version. The iterations of the game that featured the most content to explore were the console versions. Well, Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that they will be releasing the same game for the Wii U this spring, at least in Europe. We expect a North American release to follow suit.

More ways to catch a virus, but maybe not with friends

A Virus Named TOM Heading to PlayStation Vita

First, the good news: A Virus Named TOM will be making its way to PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Mobile devices (Xperia) this summer. The bad news is that co-op is looking unlikely for the Vita edition, though developer Misfits Attics is hopeful something can be worked out for the tablet and phone versions. Even without co-op, the portable releases will come with new levels and some new features, so there's no reason to be too bummed out.
