Extra Life Game Day is upon us, so grab your controller and your wallet, it's about to get crazy. Our Extra Life team has been busy seeking out donations and today is always our biggest day. While we play and stream co-op games on our Twitch channel for everyone to enjoy, we hope you'll join us and send a donation our way! When you make a d...
It's been awhile since our co-op crew has gone on a monster hunt, but last week Locke, Mike, and Jason donned their armor and doot horns to check our the Monster Hunter Rise demo on the PC. Everything went exactly according to plan and they definitely have no rust from not playing for a while...
Terminator 2, the blockbuster movie from the 1990s, is still beloved today, even if it can't get a proper Blu-ray/4K home video release (they're all super blue and/or DNR-ridden messes). The film was so huge that Midway released a light gun-style arcade game that was soon ported to 16-bit and 8-bit consoles and computers...
Yeah... so October lived up to it's reputation, didn't it? We counted a total of 78 releases across all platforms in our release calender. Enough for everyone to get their fix. How about a bit of real-time strategy? Age of Empires IV finally saw the light of day after 16 years of waiting and is ready for some good old comp-stomp action. Don't own a PC? Take a look at Iron Harvest then, which hit consoles this month and even offers a full-on co-op campaign. More of a shooty kind of person? Then you may be interested to hear that Quake got ready for next-gen consoles, Back 4 Blood and Far Cry 6 hit the market and even a new DOOM total conversion, REKKR: Sunken Land, stands ready to fulfill that old-school shooter need. All in all good times to be a co-op gamer as well as a co-op database as it saw another 120 entries added to it this month.
Can you believe it's been ten years? The Co-Optimus team has raised $19,586.75 since we joined Extra Life back in 2012, and we couldn't have done it without our community. Thank you to everyone who has donated, participated, cheered us on, or spread the word! The generosity of the Co-Optimus community and their network of friends and family is astounding.
Last night the crew dove into Back 4 Blood a day before its official release. It's the perfect time of year for a game like this and we were immediately reminded what makes these experiences so special. And while on the surface its easy to see Turtle Rock Studios return to the Left 4 Dead formula from many years ago, Back 4 Blood definitely feels like a modern shooter.
I love pleasant surprises. Such as it was with Timemelters, a two player co-op tower defense like game for PC in which players are tasked with stopping hordes of evil creatures. But unlike most tower defense style games, it's played from an on the ground perspective and your towers are different defensive spells in order to manage the baddies.
We checked out Dead Containment the other night during our Twitch stream, its a two player co-op on rails shooter in the same realm of House of the Dead or Virtua Cop. The graphics in fact are very reminiscent of the latter, though it certainly has a modern look to it.
It's a good time to be a co-op gamer, don't you think? What? You don't? Well our release calender showed 69 (nice!) releases for September across all platforms. Is that not enough to convice you? Yes, not all of them offer the classic couch gaming experience many so heartly desire. We know. But at the same time not everyone has the luxury of readily available friends in close proximity. As such having the option to go online is something we appreciate, too.
Last night our crew of four dove into the recently released Diablo II remaster, Diablo II: Resurrected. For many of us it was a trip down memory lane as we were all in our prime high school or early college age. It was a time when games actually were sold in stores in giant boxes and DVDs were considered cutting edge.
Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day famously sang a plea to wake him when September ends. What's so good about the end of September, though? As it turns out, the last day of September will be very good for Bubble Bobble fans this year. That's when Bubble Bobble 4: The Baron's Workshop launches on Steam, complete with the first level editor in the series' history, 200 built-in levels, and 4-player local co-op.
Mike and Nick are reliving their teenage years thanks to the free update to QUAKE. Bethesda and id Software have brought the game into the modern age with high resolution graphics, controller support, and full internet play including cross platform multiplayer.
